Just as there are various styles of dance, there are also various types of dance that you can present to our Lord. I will only focus on two in this article, but please note, there are as many types of dance as there are types of prayer, like the war dance, the petition dance, the historical dance, etc. If you want more information on these dances, please comment below, so I’ll know that’s what you want to read next 🙂
The two most well known types of godly dances are praise and worship. The difference between praise dance and worship dance is this:
Praise dance is usually a dance to thank the Lord immediately after He has done something for you as a person or as a group. Something you may have been praying about and He granted or some unexpected favor you received. This a a dance of thanks to God usually depicted by faster, cheerful movements.
Worship dance is usually danced to celebrate the Lord and reverence His Holiness and Nature. It’s usually focused on Him and His wonderful character as revealed to us. The dance is usually solemn with slower, graceful, and meaningful movements.
The dances are their meanings should govern the appropriateness of the occasion, but when do you dance them? Well that depends….on your location. If you are in public, you must wait for the leading of the Holy Spirit. He has the right timing and right purpose of every dance done before an audience. If you are in the privacy of your dwelling, you may dance when you heart longs to!
My heart almost always longs to dance in the public and in private, but I wait for the urging and go forth accordingly. If you are a dancer for the Lord, when and where do you dance?
